THIS COIN: Flashy untoned Gem with surfaces radiating with swirling frosty luster. Design elements are sharply struck.
BACKGROUND: The 1877 date is the most common Philadelphia mint Trade Dollar business strike (3,039,200 mintage) in lower grades but Gem specimens are extremely rare. Most are weakly struck. Only Type II/II is known to exist. Most of the production was shipped to the Orient.
