Thirteen stars, the year, mintmark, and the words E PLURIBUS UNUM are inscribed into the edge.
The obverse features the series’ traditional depiction of Sacagawea and her son.
The reverse honors the Mohawk high iron workers as builders of New York City and other skylines. They had a reputation of being top notch workers who weren’t afraid of heights or dangerous conditions on high steel. They worked on many world famous landmarks in New York City such as the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the George Washington Bridge, and the World Trade Center. The reverse depicts a Mohawk iron worker reaching for an I-beam as it swings into position. The NYC skyline follows the apparent curvature of the earth to accentuate the dizzying height at which the iron worker is working above the city.
Inscriptions include “United States of America”, “$1”, and “Mohawk Ironworkers”.
