Thirteen stars, the year, mintmark, and the words E PLURIBUS UNUM are inscribed into the edge.

The obverse features the series’ traditional depiction of Sacagawea and her son.

The theme of the coin is Native American hospitality. The reverse shows a Native American man offering a pipe with his wife offering food. The background adds a neat dimension to the coin with an image of the face of William Clark’s compass highlighting “NW” indicating the Corps of Discovery’s journey through the Northwest. The design is intended to symbolize the unity of families in offering aid, support, and friendship to those in the expedition.
