Owner Comments:
This piece is in my collection solely because it was minted during the year of the 1896 presidential election when William McKinley squared off against William Jennings Bryan in their epic battle over "free silver." This was the flagship gold piece while the 1896 silver dollar, which is also a common date in its respective series, was symbolic for the Bryan campaign.
