1941-S JEFFERSON LARGE S (FS-501) VARIETY IN MS67'
As of this date Jan 2013: In the Highest Level Ngc (3) where Pcgs has
(11) in MS66,,, none higher.
Here's a Jefferson Variety that's becoming very popular due to its limited supply in higher grades.
A well known author' Bernard Nagengast mentioned this in the Jefferson Nickel Analyst that a total
of 10 dies were made to create the 1941-S Jefferson nickel.
From all those Dies there was only (1) that was mistakenly struck mintmark that brought about
this incredible variety. When in search for these, always remember to loupe-in and look for the
Trianglar Serif, to verify it. From what I've referenced with only (1) Die, the only way the price
value could go is Up! Both sides of this coin, the fields are clean and clear of any distractions.
This rare pop variety is the only "Large S" FS-501 in this Ngc Registry so far at this grade level.
In my Custom Set' I also have 1941-S Inverted S Variety in MS64 only (5) currently thru Ngc.
This Small S variety (FS-503) having its mintmark inverted, the dies have ran far to long- and
locating one below mintstate grade will be hard to recognize.
New Large S Update: April 2017
- In the Highest Level Ngc has (4) now in MS-67 None in MS67-FS!
Pcgs has (19) in MS66 with (10) now in FS' the highest (1) in MS-66!
