Vicksburg was first established as a National Military Park on February 21, 1899. The NPS took over the park in 1933. The park lays in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Delta, Louisiana.
The Vicksburg National Military Park quarter is the fourth released in 2011 and the ninth overall in the series. It features the ironclad USS Cairo on the Yazoo River during the 47-day siege of Vicksburg. I never knew that the USS. Cairo was the first warship sunk by an electronically detonated torpedo. Great looking coin! I love the history portrayed here.
