Owner Comments:
INITIAL ACQUISITION: U.S. Mint collector bag in 2010.
SLAB: Submitted in 2010 with other examples from the bag for bulk grading with PCGS. This coin, and a few others from the bag, earned a grade of MS 66.
OBVERSE: There is not much "chatter," but what few scratches exist are obvious and not shallow. Fields are unusually clean. The typically unattractive toning at one o'clock is not a problem here, because it resembles toning a coin might acquire in a roll with a small impurity alongside.
REVERSE: The coin neatly divides into faint blue toning in the SW and faint orange toning in the NE. A scratch between the two tone areas is long and wide - it's surprising that PCGS graders would allow that for an MS 65. But actually don't mind that scratch as much as I should, because it falls right on that Toning Maginot Line.
SALE STATUS: Not for sale. A companion MS 66 toned example is available - with slightly more uniform blue reverse. Several MS 65 are available, including some unusual toning and/or moderate lamination issues on the obverse.
