The United States mint issued the Bicentennial John F. Kennedy half dollar in the 1975 and ’76 Proof sets. Since there was no difference between the coins that the mint issued during those years, it is impossible to attribute a specific date to pieces such as this that have been removed from their mint holders. These pieces featured a double date on the obverse (1776 – 1976) and a view of the back of Independence Hall in Philadelphia on the reverse. A similar, more attractive interpretation of this national landmark was featured on the reverse of the 1926 Sesquicentennial $2.50 gold piece.
