Owner Comments:

In 1992 the United States mint revived the issuance of the classic solid (not clad) silver coinage in the form of a new series of Proof sets. The dime, quarter and half dollar contained the pre-1965 composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. These beautiful coins because an instant hit with collectors because of their brilliant white surfaces and magnificent cameo appearance. This 1998-S quarter features a revised version of the bust of George Washington introduced by designer John Flanagan in 1932. Some collectors have criticized the “spaghetti hair” aspect of the revised design, but to date the mint as continued to issue the bust of Washington in this motif. Starting in 1999 the State Quarter series began. That year and for the following nine years the obverse was modified and John Flanagan’s eagle was replaced by special designs that honored each of the 50 states.
