Owner Comments:
The S (San Francisco Mint) dates tend to be more fully struck and have the higher graded coins in the non-CC gsa category. The 1880-S is less common than the 1879-S, and the 1881-S less common than the 1880-S. Other than the 1879-S, they are all difficult to find in higher grades. Only 3 of the 1880-S have been graded ms66 as of 4/07, with none finer.
I bought this coin on ebay, as graded. The holder has some light damage to it in the upper right hand corner. The prior owner did not disclose the origin of the damage, but with only 3 graded MS66, I was willing to live with it. This is a beautiful coin, very clean and silky.
