This 1934 Washington Quarter was graded AU 55 by NGC.This Washington Quarter was originally struck as a commemorative coin to mark George Washington’s 200th birthday.George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar which moved Washington's birthday a year and 11 days to February 22, 1732. The Washington Quarter was adopted as a replacement for the Standing Liberty Quarter.No Washington Quarters were produced in 1933 but the series resumed in 1934.The series has continued different designs over the years but the portrait of Washington has been the one constant of the series.
