Owner Comments:

A copper/nickel version of the Indian Cent struck in 1862 and graded MS-62 by NGC.Notice the redesigned reverse of this coin as compared to the 1859 first year version of the Indian Cent. This coin is a nice uncirculated MS-62 RB example of a U.S. coin which was struck during the Civil War.At the time of this coin’s striking the United States were not so United as the country was engaged in a great Civil War.A War that would prove to be most costly in American lives. Our President at the time was Abraham Lincoln, our Nation’s 16th President and in my humble opinion one of our greatest Presidents,he was able to keep the Union together through some very difficult times and begin the road to reconstruction before he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Booth was an American actor and Southern sympathizer who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. on April 14, 1865.Many bloody battles were fought in the year 1862 and the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on September 22,1862.A major battle between Union and Confederate forces was waged at Antietam on September 17,1862 only 5 days before the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln.Antietam followed by Gettysburg were turning point in the War which would eventually lead to a Union victory.
