All US coins dated 1954; regular issue, commemorative and proof, including varieties.
All of the regular issue, proof and commemorative coins are high-end. The varieties are not as high-end as we want as we were limited to what was available at the time. Many varieties are very scarce so sometimes one must settle for what one can get!
There were 23 regular issue coins minted during 1954 from the three US Mints; Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco; 15 regular, 3 commemorative and 5 proof issues.
During 1954, at least 23 dies with errors were produced at the three US mints. From these dies some amazing varieties were minted. We are missing at least 6 of the 1954 varieties attributed by CONECA (The Combined Organization of Numismatic Error Collectors of America) and accepted by the three major grading services as major varieties. CONECA is the recognized authority on American error coins.
It is amazing to us that the 3 mints combined produced 23 mint state coins for the year and at least an astounding 23 recognized varieties!
