Owner Comments:
In 1992, the new Republic of Hungary coinage was released for circulation. Coins of 1, 2, and 5 forint were made available, however, only 2000 pieces of the 10, 20, 50, and 100 forint denominations were released, exclusively in mint sets. These 1992 mint sets are now exceedingly rare and expensive, and even moreso are the 1992 proof sets, for which only 1000 pieces were produced.
This is a proof strike of the early version of the 1 forint pattern with a reeded edge, unlike the business strikes. Due to the edge change on this coin, this is the only denomination of the 1992 issues with 4 versions of its pattern instead of two. 50 pieces were struck.
