The formal name of the Cathedral is the Cathedral of St. Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity, the Gloucester Cathedral was first built in 1061 and re-established by Henry VIII in 1541. It originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to St. Peter.
