PONTIC KINGDOM. Mithradates VI Eupator (120-63 BC). AR tetradrachm (29mm, 16.70 gm, 11h). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5. Pergamum, dated December BE 224 (74/3 BC). Diademed head of Mithradates right, with windswept hair / BAΣIΛEΩΣ MIΘPAΔATOY EYΠATOPOΣ, Stag grazing left; star-in-crescent to left above monogram; to left, ΔKΣ (date), two monograms to right, Г (month) in exergue; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. De Callatay D 62. HGC 7, 340. DCA 692. SNG Copenhagen 236 (same dies). Fantastic strike on a broad flan of good metal, with brilliant white surfaces.
