Colon 1937 BNCR, MS 66 NGC, Royal Mint, KM 177. A second-year issue with a mintage of 300,000 coins. On November 5, 1936, there is a new law changing the name of Banco Internacional de Costa Rica to Banco Nacional de Costa Rica. In 1937, the bank with the new name, order the new coins that are minted in the Royal Mint of England. On the obverse it has the Coat of Arms, on the upper part it reads “República de Costa Rica” and on the lower part is reads “1937”. On the reverse of this coin, it has two coffee branches and in the center the value, on the upper part it reads “America Central” and on the lower part it has the initials “BNCR”. The diameter of this coin is 29 mm and it has a weight of 10 grams, on the edge of the coin it also has the initials “BNCR.”. The coins are minted from an alloy of copper and nickel. This is also a very rare coin to find in top quality condition. At MS 66, it is tied to the highest graded coin at the NGC Census.
