Owner Comments:
There is not a lot to comment on regarding this coin. It bears the half-length (some employ the descriptor “heroic”) bust of about Marcus Aurelius Nigrinianus (died circa 284 AD), the grandson of Emperor Carus. He was most likely the child of Emperor Carinus and his last wife, Magnia Urbica. However, some speculate that he was the child of Carinus’ sister, Aurelia Paulina. In any case, sadly, Nigrinian died in infancy, as did a relatively high percentage in children born at the time. As a member of the imperial clan, he earned at least a footnote in history thanks to the issuance of commemorative coins, including this extremely rare antoninianus.
