A think patina of gun-metal gray toning makes this coin a challenge for grading and photographing. The coin is not strongly struck on the obverse, but is struck well on the reverse despite the photographers inability to capture breast feather and other details that are visible when inspecting the coin in person. This coin would make an interesting study for a grading challenge, as it lacks the visible marks to drop the grade below MS66, yet due to toning it appears in photographs to be weakly struck. When held in hand, the coin has strike details consistent with its grade, a lack of marks consistent with a full grade higher, and nice obverse and reverse luster under the toning when the coin is tilted and rotated under incandescent light. That said, this 1902-O looks dull and weakly struck in these accompanying photographs, and any attempt to improve on these images would likely be a difficult challenge.
