Dominican Republic - 1949 1 Centavo - KM #17 - Mintage: 3,000,000
Minted by the US Mint in Philadelphia for circulation in the Dominican Republic. The one centavo coins issued between 1939 and 1961 are commonly referred to as the "Palmita." Issued during the Trujillo Regime it is interesting to note that the Royal Palm tree was also the symbol of Trujilla's political party, the "Partido Dominicano." This choice brilliant red example exhibits scattered traces of toning that show signs of beginning to turn iridescent.
