1883 5C liberty Head
Judd-1713, Pollock-1917
Rarity: High R.7, PR65
Only 5 pieces confirmed

Struck in Aluminum with Plain Edge

Obverse:
The obverse is the regular issue Liberty Head nickel with Barber's portrait of Liberty surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, date below.

Reverse:
The reverse is the traditional wreath of corn, cotton, maple, and wheat, with 33 N. / 67 C. in the center. FIVE is at the top rim and CENTS at the bottom rim, with seven stars left, six right.

Comment:
The reverse has a wreath similar to that on the Liberty Nickel, except it has been reduced in size. The piece was struck on a planchet that was striated on the obverse side. There are a few tiny lint marks scattered about, but only one tiny fleck, located in the left obverse field out from the chin of Liberty.

This appears to be a nice rarity, with only five specimens are traced by Saul Teichman of USPatterns.com.

Provenance/Appearance:
From The Burge Collection. Heritage Feb 27 2025 Long Beach Expo / Lot #4129, Prior:
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2013), lot 6748.
