Holy Trinities, Minories was a parish church within the Church of England located in the east end of London with the Borough of Stepney. The original church was built in the 12th century and became part of the Abbey of the Minories of St. Claire without Aldgate in 1293. After the dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539 it became a parish church. The church escaped damage from the Great Fire of London in 1666 but eventually fell into disrepair and was rebuilt in 1706. The church was closed in 1899 as part of the Union of Benefices Act of 1860. The building continued as a parish hall until it was destroyed by a German bomb during WWII.
The family business of the token manufacturer Peter Skidmore was an iron foundry at 15 Coppice Row in Clerkenwell with a shop at No. 123, High Holborn. Skidmore realized that there was a market for tokens as the genuine tradesmen's pieces of the time were very keenly collected as they were issued. As well as making genuine tradesmens' tokens to order, he also made pennies and halfpennies for sale to collectors of the time - especially series of Buildings Tokens for London.
One of a set of 120 pieces - each portraying a well-known church in or around London.
Not included in Atkins work.
