Critique: Struck to memorialize the passing of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse is the first official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, which heralds a new chapter for the British monarchy. The reverse displays an intricate reinterpretation of the Royal Arms, in a rare change of design from the classic St. George and Dragon. With a single coin mintage of 17500, this is one of the more abundant proof QEII sovs available.
I actually bid on this coin by mistake! I meant to bid on the MS version, but due to the very early hours of this overseas auction I accidentally bid on this proof version! This version has about 15 times as many Top Pop coins graded already, so I would have bid much lower for it had I been paying proper attention. Unfortunately there was somebody else interested and the competition forced the price up, so I ended up paying 20% too much. Oh well....
