Owner Comments:

Here we again have a difference in how PCGS and Conder label this generation. Conder calls this generation 2 however PCGS doesn't identify this style as a generation in their museum of holders. Instead, they list the doily style as generation 2. That is because PCGS puts the doily holder style as being used prior to this holder style. What we do know is that there were not many of these produced and I am lucky to have obtained the two examples I have. Conder101 suggests this holder was used during Oct and Nov of 1989, a second source has suggested that this holder was used from Oct thru a portion of Dec 1989.

This change in the holder was brought about due to the ease with which counterfeiters were able to reproduce the rattler holders. This generation brought around many changes, but really it is a rattler holder with a plastic outer ring added. For starters the letters PCGS were stamped into the outer ring at the lower right of the outer ring. Also, a readable barcode was added to the obverse label. And the reverse label was changed to the PCGS (copyrighted) logo with a multicolored hologram.

This holder has two different label styles, and I might eventually distinguish between them if I ever acquire an example of the other label style. The other label that can be seen in this holder includes the coin type (Morgan in this case) between the coin date and the cert number. And the lettering is left justified on the label as opposed to the centering of the lettering on my examples.
