Critique: Late in life 5th Crowned Head portrait of QE2. With a single coin mintage of 10500, this is one of the more abundant proof QEII sovs available. As such, it seems that everyone else at the auction already had one, and there was very little bidder interest. So I was able to walk away with it for only $200 over the melt price, which was very nice indeed. A great number of these have been graded PF70UC, which would also help account for the lack of bidders.
It's interesting to note that the latest 2021 edition of Marsh/Hill does not list this proof issue, and does not assign any number to it. Perhaps that oversight occurred since the release was so close to the time when the publication was being finalized for printing. I'm sure the error has been pointed out by now,, and will be corrected in the next edition.
