Owner Comments:

Peru - 1976 1/2 SOL - KM# 265 - Mintage: 200,664,000 (*)

NOTE: There were two types of 1/2 Sol coins struck in 1976, the BATTLE OF AYACUCHO 1/2 Sol (KM-268 struck in gold, not by the U.S. Mint), and the normal circulation coin (KM-265 struck in brass). The circulation 1/2 Sol (KM-265) was struck in both 1975 (not by the U.S. Mint) and 1976 (by the U.S. Mint). It appears that NGC has only graded examples of the BATTLE OF AYACUCHO 1/2 Sol for 1976 and has not yet graded a 1976 circulation 1/2 Sol (KM-265), so it was not possible to choose 1976 as a date for the circulation 1/2 Sol to create this WANT. In order to create a WANT for the proper coin type (KM-265), the only choice available is 1975. The price guide dos however show values for both 1975 and 1976 dated KM-265 coins, although the mintage specified for 1976 is suspect because it does not match the mintage published by the U.S. Mint.

This coin is dated 1976 and was struck by the Philadelphia Mint in 1976 for circulation in Peru.

Date acquired: 12/1/2007 (raw coin)
