Paisiy Hilendarski is a Bulgarian national awakener and clergyman, author of "Slavic Bulgarian History". The ideas of national revival and liberation of the Bulgarian people expressed in his work lead many scholars to point to him as the founder of the Bulgarian revival. He was canonized as a saint in 1962. This “2 leva” coin commemorates the 300th anniversary of the saint's birth.
