Critique: A very lovely coin, with much cleaner portrait than the average MS66 Elizabeth II "Gillick", as they call them in England. This is, of course, in tribute to the designer Mary Gillick, who produced this wonderful portrait of a very young queen.
Although this gem is quite high grade and has tremendous eye appeal, it sold for a relatively low price. I'm at a loss to explain why, since the comparable 1959 coin sold minutes later for almost double! So there were certainly plenty of bidders present with money to spend on this series. Perhaps all of the collectors present already had this date in their collections, and all of the dealers had enough stock in inventory. One of the exciting aspects of numismatic auctions is how unpredictable they are, not only from month to month, but even from minute to minute!
