Critique: This is the first proof version of the modern bullion issue gold sovereigns, and a huge quantity of 50000 individual coins were minted. Very few examples have been graded PF70UC by NGC, and they are almost impossible to find. Since the issue is now over 40 years old, it's doubtful that many more coins will receive the top grade, and so this will remain one of the key dates for this category.
One of my original goals when I started collecting gold sovereigns at the start of 2022 was to get a complete set of the recent QE II proof coins (1979 to date) since they are so sharp looking. Later, I found out how very few of these were minted in most years, so I'll probably never finish. Unfortunately, soon after I was getting started I ran into the dreaded NGC competition, and now I'm only interested in PF70 UC examples! What a double curse! Probably hopeless. Check back in a few years and see how I'm doing....
