Eglit-37; Rulua-X11A. Struck in white metal with a plain edge. 65 mm. By Fristrup, Schmahlfeld and Christensen (Denmark). Also called the "Christopher Columbus Led By Light" medal. The obverse features a portrait of Christopher Columbus on the stern of a ship, being lead to the West by a female angel-like figure. Surrounding the obverse, a compass like grid showing the four cardinal directions and the words CHICAGO - 21.OCTOBER.1892 above and GUANAHANI - 12.OCTOBER.1492. The reverse features a heraldic eagle above, the WCE buildings below, and centered, on a scroll ESPOSIZIONE UNIVERSALE CHICAGO 1893 IN MEMORIA DELL ILLUSTRE NAVIGATORE CHRISTOFORO COLOMBO. A flashy piece with just a touch of silvery-gray patina. Housed in a thick, almost 5"X7" NGC holder.
