This is a specious token issued by William Lutwyche imitating the design of the tokens issued by John Hancock for Thomas Worswick & Sons of Lancaster.
John of Gaunt was the younger brother of Edward the Black Prince and as Duke of Lancaster founded the House of Lancaster. He is generally regarded as the ancestor of all English rulers beginning with his son Edward IV. Through his daughter he is also the ancestor of the House of York.
