Issac Perrins was a large man, standing 6' 2" and weighing 17 stone (238 lbs) and was the champion boxer of Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire counties. On 22 October 1789 in Banbury he faced Thomas Johnson in a famous bare knuckle boxing match. The fight lasted 62 rounds with Thomas Johnson eventually winning. Issac Perrins never fought again but went on to be a choir leader and a popular host at the Jupiter tavern. On 2 December 1800 a fire broke out in Market Street and Issac repeatedly entered the blaze, rescuing three persons and saving a quantity of goods. Unfortunately he caught a severe chill, developed a fever and died on 10 December 1800.
