Obverse: A frontal view of a large public building. The letters I.W.I. beneath on the left, DESIGN. beneath on the right. The whole enclosed in an oval. DUNDEE HALFPENNY 1796 above in two lines, INFIRMARY FOUNDED 1794 below in two lines
Reverse: A view of a harbor with a three-masted ship passing close to a wharf. The Arms, Crest, Supporters and Motto of Dundee in a sunken oval beneath. MARE ET COMMERCIUM COLIMBUS.

Like a number of other Angusshire Dundee tokens James Wright designed this one. The Infirmary was under construction when this token was issued, and it opened in 1798. It served the city until 1855 when it was replaced by the Royal Infirmary.
