Critique: At the beginning of 2022, I owned only one gold sovereign. Thirty years ago, I remember thinking it would be fun to collect them, so I decided to finally get started! As they say in the auction business, "looking time is over, buying time is here!" Initially I decided the best plan with a limited budget was to aim to collect a date set, ignoring mint marks. Also, I was mainly interested in coins with good eye appeal, so I tended to ignore actual grade when acquiring things. Somewhat later, I discovered the NGC website, and became addicted to the competition. But, I still have several of my early purchases like this one, that are nice to look at, but score rather poorly since there are so many more graded higher. No sense replacing good coins just to get a higher grade, when I'm missing so many more, so I save my money to spend on new material.
