Struck AH 271 / AD 884-885. San'a mint, A-1055, Bernardi-178El (R)
San'a is currently the largest city in Yemen, and, was the capital of that country before its civil war prompted the government to officially move the capital to Aden.
Compare this dinar of just 2.92 grams to the 4.00 gram dinar struck just one year later by the break-away Tulunid dynasty which controlled Egypt and Syria. It looks like the break-away dynasty took most of the empire with them, leaving the Abbasids to a remnant. They would reabsorb the Tulunids before long however, after the death of the ruler who struck the second Tulunid dinar in this collection.
