Leonard Euler, 1707-1783, Swiss mathematician, physicist, astronomer, geographer, logician and engineer. Euler is credited with popularizing the Greek letter pi to denote the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, as well as many other symbols still in common use today. The formula shown is his solution to the Basel Problem, proving the sum of the infinite squared integer reciprocals equaled exactly pi^2 / 6.
