Owner Comments:
The counts of Mansfeld produced many varieties of this thaler with the common theme of St. George slaying the dragon. I narrowed this one down to the Vorderort Eisleben line featuring Johann Georg I, Peter Ernst I and Christoph II. The grape leaf (Weinblatt auf Deutsch) is the mintmark of Eisleben which is known for the birthplace of Martin Luther.
If you read the posts in my journal about the previous Manfeld thaler that I bought and later sold then you will know how happy I was to find this splendid example as a replacement.
From a Heritage Auction in March of 2021.
