This 1803 large cent exhibits much usage in general commerce and is an example of the early mint’s production. As in all early U.S.Mint production this coin was manufactured using a screw press.This accounted for variations in the quality of strike because the pressure being applied relied on human manpower to operate the screw press.This coin was struck just one year prior to the Louisiana Purchase.
