1522 (ND). Salzburg. Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg (1519-1540) Guldiner. Salzburg Mint, Dav-8161, Zöttl-202. Probszt 202. A wholly appreciable and truly scarce silver issue depicting a youthful-appearing Matthäus Lang von Wellenburg, struck just prior to his defense of the city during the German Peasant's War. This moderately worn survivor is distinguished by the presence of pervasive autumnal tones peppered with mottle cobalt toning and marred only by the slightest friction to the high points and an occasional pock mark. The coin at hand is expected to draw significant attention from quality-minded collectors. PCGS XF-45.
