Owner Comments:

Struck during the rule of Johann Georg I (1615-56) to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Augsburg Confession. While Saxony is not a bishopric entity, this piece has been included in this set as an acknowledgement of the impact of Protestantism on Germany as a whole during the 1500s, 1600s, and 1700s. The Augsburg Confession not only framed the beliefs of the Lutheran movement, but also sent shockwaves through the Roman Catholic Church in Germany and beyond.
