The Spon or Great Gate was in the west city wall, in the Spon district of Coventry.
One of Peter Kempson's series of 47 pieces featuring 19 Coventry buildings made for collectors. Peter Kempson also married each of the 19 obverse tokens with a reverse featuring the bust of George Frederick Handel using the obverse die of a private token made for J. Hardingham.
