Owner Comments:
Genoese of this time and the next 100 years often found themselves hired abroad as mercenary crossbowmen. Genoese crossbowmen featured prominently in the defeated armies of France at the battles of Crecy and Poitiers. Welsh longbow archers in the English armies of Edward III and his son the Black Prince Edward prevailed.
I think NGC has graded at least one MS66; I saw it did not sell at a Stephen Album sale in 2018 for $1800.
