The Temple was built around 1790 by the followers of Emanuel Swendenborg, founder of the sect called the New Jerusalem Church.
John Ottley was a medalist working in the first half of the 19th century. He struck a series of tokens using the obverse dies from Peter Kempson, engraving a new reverse, replacing Kempson's name with his own. One of 26 Ottley tokens featuring Birmingham buildings.
