When the 50th Anniversary of Lincoln cents of four varieties were announced I thought what a bonanza of coins it would be to collect all in top and/or secondary grades for this is a historical set to celebrate forever. Early on there was tremendous competition and demand higher than supply. For the SMS MS satin finish coins I made sure not to be in a hurry to complete the 69 grades, but wow what an accomplishment it would be to achieve the victory of such a set. As time went on there were major increases in pop and prices were decreasing. I completed both SMS MS 68 and SMS MS 69 a least 5 years ago in about 2019. I could put together another set in SMS MS 69 for less than I paid for the current set which is a common occurrence in coin collecting as time passes. Hopefully later a resurgence of interest comes back in play and prices will firm up again once supply decreases. I feel fortunate in completing my sets putting them to bed while concentrating on our #2 rank 2010 to date Lincoln Union Shield Registry Set while always looking back to improve our #3 ranked 1959 to 2008 Lincoln Memorial Registry Set.
The starting 2009-P Birth & Childhood NGC SMS MS 69 1C coin contains the early issued brown Portrait label as do all of the other year date variety coins in the set.
