SHIPWRECK COIN Le CHAMEAU 1725 shipwreck French silver Ecu with COA. The CHAMEAU (CAMEL) was built in 1717 in Rochefort, France. She was utilized to transport people and goods and money to he New World. On August 27, 1725 7 miles east of her destination of Louisbourg, the ship was swept not rocks by a storm.Lives lost reported as 216 to "over 300" to 316.The ship carried a large quantity of gold, silver, and copper coins.In 1965 Alex Storm located the wreckage near Chameau Rock.
