Owner Comments:

LOWER CANADA TIFFIN 1/2 PENNY dated 1812 : COPPER ; 1832 Imitation ; Seller claims in e-mail that " this is copper and a later copy from 1832 I believe" ). Obv. King George III surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves and acorns / Rev. The figure of a seated Woman representing Commerce.
About 1832 a Montreal grocer named Tiffin issued copper half pennies. They bore the date 1812 and were imitations of much heavier pieces produced 20 years earlier.. Success prompted production of another series of tokens of the "bust and Commerce" design which were dated 1812 in order to evade anti-importation regulations.
Seller raw and NGC post slabbing images.
