Owner Comments:

Colon 1935 BICR, MS 65 NGC, Philadelphia Mint, KM 173. A first-year issue with a mintage of 350,000 coins. As indicated in the introduction of this set, this is the first “Colon” coin minted in Costa Rica. This is the only mintage done by the “Banco Internacional de Costa Rica”. On the obverse it has the Coat of Arms, on the upper part it reads “República de Costa Rica” and on the lower part is reads “1935”. On the reverse of this coin, it has two coffee branches and in the center the value, on the upper part it reads “America Central” and on the lower part it has the initials “BICR”. The diameter of this coin is 29 mm, and it has a weight of 10 grams, on the edge of the coin it also has the initials “BICR.”. The coins are minted from an alloy of copper and nickel. This is a very rare coin to find in top quality condition. At MS 65, it is the sole highest graded coin at the NGC Census. This coin has a provenance from the greatest Costa Rican collection ever assembled, the Richard Stuart Collection (October 2016). The slab of this coin indicates said provenance.
