General Comments:

1908 is a common date, though more difficult in Gem than 1906 or 1907. Lower-end UNC's are often available with excellent luster, if a large amount of contact, for reasonable prices.

The 1908/7 overdate is in no way rare or even scarce and should carry no premium. See below.

Overdate and Minor Varieties:

1. 1908/7
2. o/o superscript o

The overdate is very common. In fact, it would seem a majority of coins are the overdate. Some overdated coins have many repunched numerals, and others less so. To identify: Look for a weakly-struck bar directly above the "8".

Availability:

G-XF: Common
AU/Low-end UNC to 63: Common
64: Scarce
65-66: Very Scarce, bordering on Rare

Value Guide:

1972 Almanzar/Seppa: F: .90 VF: 1.25 XF: 2
No value given for the overdate

Current KM:
Normal Date: VF: 13 XF: 22.50 UNC: 45
Overdate: VF: 13 XF: 22.50 UNC: 45

2009 KM values had both at 15 in UNC. That's more realistic, if a touch low. Prices on circulated coins are way too high. Expect to pay 5-10 for an XF/AU. Low End UNCS sometimes sell for under 20 dollars. Certified MS 63/64 should bring 30-40. Certified MS 65/66 should bring 50-90.

Set Specimen:

An outstanding gorgeous Gem with original skin. One of my favorites in the set. The obverse features lovely orange hues, tapering to deeper red/plum over scintillating luster. On the reverse, superb frostly luster plays with pockets of open mirrored fields with delicate orange toning. Some lettering is repunched.

For all coins, tied with one other Gem, two better in 66.
