Owner Comments:

Suriname - 1943 P (Palm Privy) 1 Cent Bronze - (KM #10a) - Mintage: 2,000,000

This coin is the rare version minted by the Philadelphia Mint during World War II in bronze. It is listed in the mint records as having been struck specifically for circulation in the Dutch colony of Suriname, but since it is virtually identical to the 1942 issue in design, it probably circulated in CuraƧao as well.

Unfortunately, this coin was misidentified by NGC as KM-10, the brass version of this coin, instead of KM-10a, so it did not get afforded a Red, or Red-Brown designation as it should have. This coin should be identified as MS66RD.

This is a beautiful, well preserved specimen. If you follow the link to the price guide for this coin, you will see that NGC used this coin (albeit incorrectly) as the plate coin on that web page for the bronze version.

Date acquired: 8/12/2006 (raw coin)
Date graded: 9/18/2015 (self submitted to NGC)
