Owner Comments:

Sede vacante taler issued to commemorate the death of the bishop Maximilian Henry of Bavaria in 1688. The reverse of the taler features a nativity scene with the adoration of Christ. The symbolism is a reference back to the Cologne cathedral, which was built to house the relics of the three wise men. Classified as DAV-5153; Zepernick 32. Scarce issue; one of only 2 pieces graded at PCGS and NGC.
